Gâteaux started out as 'Icebox Bakery' in a little garage kitchen in my home in Hood River, Oregon.
I knew in my heart I had a product that needed creating. That kitchen --and the covid pandenmic--helped me bring it to life. I started making quiche and all sorts of frozen goodies to help soften the hard edges of quarantine.
Honestly, I cannot remember the moment that it occurred to me to try ready-to-bake cakes. But from the moment I did, it was a hit with my local customers.
Gâteaux seemed a more fitting name for a cake company. Plus, I wanted people to understand that we aim for a very high standard with our frozen cakes: "French pâtisserie" I call it.
We still produce delicious frozen, ready-to-bake goodies like cookies and scones under the Icebox Bakery name, which can be found in the Hood River area (see 'Where to Find Us').
